International Day for Biological Diversity

By 22nd May 2025Blog

Today, on 22 May, we join the global community in celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity under the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development” . This theme underscores the critical role biodiversity plays in sustaining life on Earth and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Importance of Biodiversity

Biodiversity encompasses the variety of all life forms on Earth. Plants, animals, Fungi, microorganisms, and the ecosystems they form. It is the foundation of ecosystem services that support human well-being, including food security, water purification, and disease regulation. However, biodiversity is under unprecedented threat due to human activities, leading to habitat loss, climate change, and species extinction.

WildCats Conservation Alliance: Our Commitment

At WildCats Conservation Alliance, we are dedicated to conserving wild tigers and Amur leopards, species that are integral to their ecosystems. Our efforts align with the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity, focusing on:

  • Anti-Poaching Initiatives: Implementing SMART monitoring techniques to combat poaching and illegal land clearance in protected areas.

  • Habitat Management: Ensuring the preservation and restoration of critical habitats for tigers and Amur leopards.

  • Community Engagement: Working with local communities to promote sustainable practices that benefit both people and wildlife while also helping to mitigate conflict between big cats and people.
