Global Tiger Day on 29 July is especially significant in the Global Year of the Tiger. The date was established following the meeting of the heads of tiger range states twelve years ago during the last Year of the Tiger in 2010. It was during that meeting the attendees pledged to double wild tiger numbers by the time that Year returned in the lunar calendar.
Celebrating Global Tiger Day on and around 29th July gives you a perfect opportunity to engage visitors on how the wild tiger has a crucial place in Asian landscapes and biodiversity. As apex predators, tigers maintain a balanced ecosystem as the beating heart of Asia’s forests. With effective conservation actions, tiger numbers do recover and without any conservation, tigers would have already disappeared.
But worldwide, there are still fewer than 5,000 wild tigers and more needs to be done so that wild tigers can continue to wear their stripes with pride and flourish.
Help us to deliver grants to science-led, carefully chosen conservation projects that are having positive results for wild tigers.
Don’t forget, donations can be made at any time throughout the year – contact us for bank details.
